Research In Motion (RIM) is proud to show off their latest operating system, BlackBerry 10 (BB10) at BlackBerry World event in Orlando, United States, Tuesday (01/05/2012).
In the event, RIM demonstrated several new features in BB10. RIM CEO Thorsten Heins emphasizes the use of operating system in terms of applications and multitasking.
At least, there are three interesting things from BB10, which is different from previous operating systems.
1. Switch applications smoothly
One of the most distinguishing thing in BB10 with previous BlackBerry operating system is the users can switch the application without go back to the main screen.
Users can view and select the applications that run in the background by dragging the window from side menu and screen.
As shown in the picture above, you can open the inbox, message content and attachments (PDF file) arranged in neat pile. Everything can be drawn as you wish.
2. "Time Machine" Camera Software
You are taking a picture of your friend with a beautiful smile and good lighting, but her eyelids are closed. This frequently happen. What you usually do with this pictures? A lot of people will delete it.
With camera software in BB10, you do not need to delete the photo because you can return to the time when you took the picture to choose the best picture when your friends eyelids have not closed, even when you do not press the shutter button. Yes, this camera software is like time machine where you can return to the moment before you take a picture.
Most likely, BB10 camera software is recording images just before the shutter button is pressed.
3. Smart Virtual Keyboard
When BB10 virtual keyboard being used for typing, the keyboard will predict the next word that you type. The words referred to RIM as predictor of word suggestions, will appear at the top of the first letter of the word.
If you want to use the word prediction, then you just touched while pulling upward. The number of word prediction that appears will be different each time, could be 3 words, five words, or even more.
It appears, BB10 is designed to compete iPhone, Android and Windows Phone that is dominated by touch screen device.
RIM says BB10 will be available in late 2012. RIM has made sure that Blacberry PlayBook will get BB10.
However, RIM has not announced that any type of BlackBerry smartphone will supported and can be upgraded to BlackBerry OS 10.
